Our Team

The team at The Participation Works is more like a family. We welcome volunteers and key workers from all backgrounds and walks of life, and value diversity in what our people can give back to our community and the individuals within it.

Our expertise means we have a great understanding of the needs and issues of young people, which enables us to deliver specific projects to address those needs by working in partnership with the young people themselves, their families and other community stakeholders.

Whilst our qualified Project Officers, Community Leads and Youth Workers bring qualifications and experience in their fields, we couldn’t do anything without our essential team of volunteers, who support in everything we do behind the scenes as well as out in the community.

Look out for profiles on our Blog page for each of our team members over the coming weeks and months as a regular feature. You can even find out more about joining us! For now, though… meet the Directors!

Abdul Haleem

Abdul has 15 years of experience as a community development specialist, and is well known for having taken tremendous enjoyment and success from working within diverse communities to support and advocate for young people.

During this long and intensive career, Abdul has developed specialisms that are integral to the effective running of a not-for-profit organisation like The Participation Works, including research analysis, project management, financial planning, and funding application. Without these skills, our good work would struggle to continue after initial project roll-outs.

The fact that Abdul has such great expertise in youth engagement in addition to all of this is merely a massive bonus!

Lynne Blackburn

Lynne is a well-respected and highly passionate youth and community development professional, with over 16 years of experience in the field.

She has worked in both commercial sectors as well as within voluntary organisations, and therefore combines a head of knowledge of successful project management with the heart of knowing what it means to be active in the voluntary sector.

Lynne is skilled in the sourcing of/application for funding, and is able to use such resources to get out in the field to organise and deliver a range of community events and activities, where she has a reputation for engaging local people, building capacity, and bringing the community together. Lynne has a real commitment for making a difference to the lives of those she works with, and involvement in youth and community work is her absolute passion.
