24th April 2025Launching our new 'Connected Generations' project
On 28th May we visited a local dementia support group with members of our Change Makers youth collective, which marked the start of activities for this new & exciting project.
This was the first outing as part of our new Connected Generations intergenerational project, funded by The National Lottery Awards for All programme, where the young people joined in with games of dominoes with an already-established community group.
The aim of the project is to bring together members of different generations over a common goal/interest, using activities as a tool for social connection across all ages & personal backgrounds. Often there is a barrier in society between young people & older generations - this project aims to break down those barriers & prejudices & provide opportunities for genuine connection, strengthening communities for the wider benefit of all.
Group member Shaan (the young man wearing glasses on the cheque photo), did a short write up of the event from a young person's perspective:
"Last Wednesday, our youth group, Change Makers, took a trip to a local community group for the day to connect the younger generation to the older generation. When we arrived at first, we were a bit nervous but that was soon changed as they welcomed us with such kindness. We played games, laughed and talked with them. It was such an amazing experience for us, we all enjoyed it and we did connect with the older generation as planned. As we left, we felt more connected not just to them, but the rest of the community." Thank you, Shaan!
